It is with great pleasure that we share with you a special issue of the Undergraduate Journal of Service Learning and Community-Based Research entitled “Service Learning and Community-Based Research in a Time of Disruption.” Student submissions focused on responding to disruption while participating in service learning or community-based research and include both research and reflection pieces. The papers in this special issue demonstrate the disruption and response, including supporting elementary students facing food insecurity (Atkins and VanAntwerp) finding community and purpose through dance and literacy engagement (Bailes), adjusting to research disruption (Bedward) and international research collaborations (Burns, Jenna Holland, Walters) during COVID-19 to addressing social and mental health needs of students with Intellectual Disabilities (Mehta), empowering youth to change their community (Stephenson), and hip hop pedagogy and community engagement (Weiss).

We would like to thank all of the students who submitted their work to the special issues—your perseverance through times of disruption is aspiring. Thank you to Dr. Julia Waity, Editor, Undergraduate Journal of Service Learning and Community-Based Research for providing us with the opportunity to serve as guest editors. A huge thank you to editorial assistant Emily Crumpler who provided us guidance and support throughout the entire preparation process. We know that these are challenging times for everyone, and we appreciate all of the hard work that was put into getting this special issue published.

We hope you enjoy reading these articles related to disruption and the student response. Undergraduate students, please consider submitting your work for a future issue of the Undergraduate Journal of Service Learning and Community-Based Research.
