Abstract

The purpose of this research is to look at prevention programs that focus on the relationship between drug and alcohol abuse within distal, intermediate, and proximal ideologies. We hope that through the research we can understand why we need prevention programs at a distal, proximal, or intermediate level. The paper presents research and statistics behind drug and alcohol abuse in youth. And a discussion on Community-Based participatory research through a partnership with the Wilmington Police Department. The paper explores the social determinants of youth crime and how programs especially community-based programs can impact Wilmington, North Carolinas drug and alcohol abuse in youth.
